Minister Uraloğlu: 5G will be the key to transformation in many areas

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu issued a written statement regarding 5G technology. Uraloğlu stated that 5G, which offers significant improvements not only in terms of speed but also in terms of architecture and functionality compared to 4.5G, is a strategic step for Turkey. He said, "Thanks to this technology, many areas, including industry, healthcare, and transportation, will be reshaped not only by communication but also by 5G. 5G will be the key to transformation in many areas, from machine-to-machine communication to artificial intelligence."
Minister Uraloğlu emphasized that 5G technology will be the new standard for speed and quality in communication, saying, "5G can offer much higher data speeds and capacity compared to previous-generation technologies. This allows users to watch high-resolution videos without interruption and download large data files quickly."
Uraloğlu emphasized that 5G technology will provide dense device connectivity, creating the foundational infrastructure for smart cities. He explained, "It will be possible for thousands of machines in a factory to communicate simultaneously with each other, and for sensor systems in cities to work synchronously. This will lead to improvements in many areas, from production efficiency to disaster management."

Uraloğlu stated that 5G's network slicing technology will enable virtual networks to be established on the same infrastructure to meet different user needs. He said, "While one slice will operate with ultra-low latency for smart vehicles, another will be able to operate at high speed for video broadcasts. This will enable the development of customized solutions for each sector."
Uraloğlu underlined that real-time applications will become possible with ultra-low latencies and provided the following information about the main advantages offered by 5G:
"The near-instant response time of 5G is vital for real-time applications such as instantaneous decision-making in autonomous vehicles, remote surgeries, and virtual reality. This instantaneous response capability in communications will enable secure and efficient real-time interactions across many industries."
Reminding that 5G services are currently being tested in certain areas in Türkiye, Minister Uraloğlu said, "Our citizens can experience 5G at Istanbul Airport, the stadiums of our four major football clubs, and the Turkish Grand National Assembly."
Uraloğlu stated that the process necessary for widespread 5G use is progressing rapidly, saying, "Three of our mobile network operators will be able to participate in the 5G tender to be held on October 16, 2025. Following this tender, our operators will begin offering 5G services as of April 1, 2026. We will build Türkiye's digital future with this process that prioritizes domestic production, encourages competition, and aims for technological leaps."
