Arnavutköy is strong against disasters: 10 disaster containers were put into service

As part of World Disaster Risk Reduction Day, October 13th, the Arnavutköy Municipality held a program at the Bolluca Annex. Arnavutköy Mayor Mustafa Candaroğlu, representatives of non-governmental organizations, students, and citizens attended the event. Ten disaster containers prepared as part of the Neighborhood Disaster Volunteers Project were put into service during the program. The containers, which will be placed at various locations throughout the district, particularly in high-risk areas, are equipped with equipment for first response in potential disasters. The containers contain a wide range of tools, from hand tools and search and rescue supplies to basic life support equipment and first aid kits.

Speaking at the event, Arnavutköy Mayor Mustafa Candaroğlu emphasized the importance of preparedness in disaster response. Candaroğlu said, "Preventing disasters may not be in our hands, but combating and being prepared for them is the most important way to minimize damage. Since the first day we took office, we established our Disaster Affairs Directorate to make our district more resilient to disasters and have implemented numerous initiatives to raise disaster awareness. Our Neighborhood Disaster Teams project, which we implemented as part of this initiative, is continuing with great success. As of today, 1,400 of our volunteers are continuing their training."
Stating that they had kept the promises made, President Candaroğlu continued his speech as follows:
"We said we would place disaster recovery containers in every neighborhood. Today, we are making good on that promise. Initially, we are commissioning 10 of our containers. This step will increase the response capacity of both our volunteers and professional teams, making them faster and more effective." Emphasizing that strong teams are as crucial as robust infrastructure in disaster response, Candaroğlu also noted that the capacity of the municipality's ARKUR has been increased, saying, "We've doubled the size of our ARKUR team, comprised entirely of volunteers. We're also showcasing our second rescue trailer, a self-designed vehicle, here. These vehicles will significantly increase our response speed."
The program concluded with disaster volunteers and participants inspecting the containers. Mayor Candaroğlu chatted with the volunteers and learned about disaster preparedness efforts.
