SHOT IN THE NECK AND THROWN INTO THE STREAM

On December 13, 2023, the vehicle of Mustafa Hakkulu, a father of 3 children, was found abandoned on the Mansurlu road in Kozan district. The sad news came from Hakkulu 11 days later. Hakkulu's body was found by citizens in the stream in the Postkabasakal Neighborhood. The autopsy revealed that Mustafa Hakkulu was killed by being shot in the back of the neck with a gun.

HE CONFESSED ON MÜGE ANLI'S PROGRAM

While the homicide bureau teams were working to solve the horrific murder, İsa Dumlu, a father of 3 children, confessed on live TV that he killed his friend Mustafa Hakkulu because he was talking badly about his wife. Dumlu, who was immediately taken into custody by teams from the Istanbul Public Security Branch Directorate, said, "I regret it."

During his interrogation at the police station, Dumlu claimed that his friend Yüksel Menderes Ürün had committed the murder. Following this claim, Ürün was also taken into custody.

DECISION HEARING WAS HELD

A verdict was given in the case filed against İsa Dumlu and Yüksel Menderes Ürün, who were arrested, at the Kozan High Criminal Court for the crime of "Premeditated Murder". The defendants Dumlu and Ürün attended the verdict hearing via the Audio and Visual Information System (SEGBİS) from the prisons where they are being held. The defendants made their final defenses at the hearing, where the relatives of the murdered Mustafa Hakkulu and the lawyers of the parties were also present.

"BRING THE TRUST"

Confessing to the murder, Dumlu changed his statement and claimed that the murder was committed by his friend and fellow defendant Yüksel Menderes Ürün, who owed Mustafa Hakkulu money. Stating that he had known Mustafa Hakkulu 2-3 months before the incident and that he had bought a hunting rifle from him for 5 thousand liras, Dumlu said, "As I was returning home from the civil registry office, Yüksel called me on the phone and said, 'Take the deposit and bring it.' I understood that by the deposit he meant the rifle I had taken from Mustafa. I took the rifle from home and went to my workplace. Yüksel came and took the rifle. When I asked him why he wanted it, he said, 'I will kill Mustafa brother, I have a lot of debt.' Then he said, 'Call Mustafa and bring him here.' I called Mustafa many times, he did not answer. Yüksel called too and said, 'İsa is on bad terms with his wife, he is upset, I cannot go to him. He is at the Mansurlu junction, can you take care of it?' "After hanging up the phone, I left Yüksel at the edge of the orange grove in the Deliçay area. I thought he would kill Mustafa here because it was solitary," he said.

Suddenly there was a gunshot

Dumlu, who stated that Mustafa Hakkulu came to him with his vehicle after a while, described the moment of the murder as follows:

"Mustafa sat in the right front seat of my car. We drank some alcohol and drove around. Later, Yüksel called and said, 'Pick me up from the Mansurlu junction.' I took Yüksel into the car and then we went to his house when he said he would get money from home. I went to the bathroom and saw a gun in Yüksel's hand. I wasn't surprised because he was planning to kill Mustafa. Yüksel sat in the right back seat of the car. Mustafa was sitting in the right front seat. When we arrived at the Deliçay location, suddenly we heard gunshots. The windshield of the car exploded, Mustafa was covered in blood. When it got dark, we threw Mustafa's body into the stream in the Postkabasakal location." Dumlu, one of the defendants asked for his last words, said, "I explained the incident in detail. I handed over all the evidence with my own hands. I am not cooperating with Yüksel. I apologize to the Hakkulu family. The judgment is first Allah's and then yours," and requested his acquittal.

"I KILLED"

Yüksel Menderes Ürün also claimed in his defense that he had nothing to do with the murder. In his final words, Ürün asked God to grant patience to the victim's family and said, "Jesus accepted his crime in the presence of 85 million people. His wife also tearfully approved of Jesus. I have no doubt that when these are taken into consideration, they will conclude that I am not guilty. I seek refuge in the court's conscience."

HE GOT A DISCOUNT BECAUSE HE CONFESSED ON LIVE BROADCAST

The court initially sentenced one of the defendants, İsa Dumlu, to life imprisonment on the grounds that the incident fell within the scope of the crime of "deliberate murder." Later, it reduced his sentence to 25 years in prison because he confessed to the murder and felt remorse for the incident. The court sentenced the other defendant, Yüksel Menderes Ürün, to life imprisonment for the crime of "deliberate murder." It did not apply any reductions. The decision ruled that both defendants would continue to be detained.

"WE WILL OBJECT TO THE DECISION"

After the hearing, the lawyer of the family of the murdered Mustafa Hakkulu, Ali Şadi Toklu, stated that the defendants had committed the murder by planning it and that the case was opened for the crime of "premeditated murder" and said that they will appeal the decision to the Regional Court of Justice. Lawyer Toklu said, "We believe that the defendants committed the murder by planning it together. The evidence also confirms us. Justice will eventually prevail. We will continue our legal struggle for both defendants to receive an aggravated life sentence."
