The 13th Animators International Film Festival begins

The festival, which will be held at the Institut français (Taksim), the main hall and small Pera hall of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Beyoğlu Cinema, the BlackBox hall on the ground floor of the Türkiye İş Bankası Painting and Sculpture Museum, the Gazhane Museum in Kadıköy, and the Istanbul Painting and Sculpture Museum, offers a rich program.

The program of the 13th edition includes screenings of short and feature films, masterclasses, talks, workshops, a conversation and the now-classic "Respect Generation" segment.

COMPETITION AND AWARDS

The jury for the 13th Animators International Film Festival includes animation veterans Florence Miailhe, Tomàs Welss, and Sine Özbilge. The SİYAD jury for the competition includes Assoc. Prof. Gül Yaşartürk, Elif Tunca, and Tuba Büdüş.

The festival's International Competition will present Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best First Film, Best Student Film, and Best Sound Design awards. The National Competition will present Best Turkish Film, Best Screenplay, Best Sound Design, and Best First Film awards. The SİYAD award and an Audience Award, determined by audience votes, will also be presented.

GUEST OF HONOR FLORENCE MIAILHE

Florence Miailhe is one of the rarest artists in the animation world. Trained as a painter, Miailhe creates a powerfully poetic universe by bringing her films to life with painted images and moving sand. The artist, who won the César Award for Best Short Film in 2002 and the Crystal of Honor at the Annecy Festival in 2015, earned acclaim with her first feature-length film, 2021's La Traversée. The artist, who inspires animation enthusiasts with her sensitive and rich perspective, will be a guest of Canlandıranlar in Istanbul. Festivalgoers will be able to watch two short film selections by Florence Miailhe, comprising 13 films produced between 1991 and 2024. The director has also compiled two short film selections featuring films that have inspired her, titled "Inspiration Cure," which will also be screened at the festival.

Florence Miailhe will share her experiences at a masterclass event on Saturday, October 25th at 17:00 at the Institut français.

IN-COMPETITION AND OUT-OF-COMPETITION SHORT FILMS

A total of 63 short animated films are being screened at the festival, 45 of which are in the international competition. The selection of the films in the competition is from the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Animation and Cartoon Awards.

The selection was made by the preliminary jury consisting of Film Department Head and interdisciplinary artist Evrim Kavcar, Bornova International Short Film Days founder and director Nesli Özalp and International Animation Film Festival competition director Çağla Aslan.

FESTIVAL PROGRAM

At the Festival, short competition films from 28 countries are presented to the audience under 9 different themes.

In addition to these, a special selection awaits the audience under the title Gaza Children's Selection.
