Fenerbahçe 's Archie Brown, who was competing with AC Milan for a transfer, has made his choice. The English player, who rejected the Italian club and accepted Fenerbahçe, arrived in Istanbul yesterday and signed a 3+1-year contract. Speaking to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano about his agreement with AC Milan, the 23-year-old English left-back said, "I was ready to go to AC Milan, but I received a call from the AC Milan president. That changed everything. The passion and vision he showed solidified my decision. I knew I had to come to AC Milan."
Milan even sent a jet to pick him up
With AC Milan close to reaching an agreement with both the club and the player in the Archie Brown deal, Fenerbahçe Director of Football Devin Özek and then President Ali Koç stepped in. After two meetings with Brown, the player chose Fenerbahçe at the last minute, despite Milan sending a private jet to Brussels. Özek, who completed the transfer of John Duran by traveling to Colombia, also played a significant role in Brown's transfer. Fenerbahçe Manager Jose Mourinho also played a significant role in Brown's transfer.
It's a great honour to work with Mourinho
After Brown's signing, Mourinho was one of the most important factors in my decision to join this club. I will strive to learn as much as I can from him and be at the best possible stage of my career under his management. Therefore, this is a great honor for me." Brown, who underwent a medical in Istanbul, subsequently signed a 3+1-year contract with Gent. The Yellow Canaries will pay €8 million to Gent for Brown's transfer fee, plus a share of any subsequent sale. The young player will earn an annual salary of €1.5 million at Fenerbahçe.
