AKP member Nurettin Canikli filed a lawsuit; Rabia Naz's father, Şaban Vatan, was sentenced to prison.

While we await justice in the Rabia Naz Vatan case, which has become a sore spot in Türkiye, a shocking development has occurred. Şaban Vatan, the father of the case, who has been fighting alone for years to solve his daughter's suspicious death, has been sentenced to 1 year and 8 months in prison following a complaint filed by former AKP MP and Minister Nurettin Canikli.
Şaban Vatan, who announced his imprisonment on Monday in a video posted on his social media account, described his experience and his reaction to the decision. In the video, Vatan spoke with photos of his daughter Rabia Naz and Atatürk in the background.
Vatan stated, "In 2019, I was put on trial as a result of a lawsuit filed against me by Nurettin Canikli. As a result of this trial, the harsh criticism was converted into a fine, and they also sentenced me to 1 year and 8 months in prison for obtaining and illegally disseminating personal data. I will go to serve my sentence on Monday," adding that the prison sentence was upheld.
"Should murderers be tried, or a father?"Vatan expressed his revolt against the possibility of his imprisonment at the end of his years-long struggle for justice with the following touching words:
"I'm asking this: Should the murderers be tried and imprisoned? Is it Şaban Vatan who fought for justice? Is it Şaban Vatan who fought for his daughter? Is it a father? I'm asking this to all of Türkiye."
Şaban Vatan claimed that the sentence was given despite stating in his defense that Canikli sent him a message via WhatsApp saying, "I will send you the court decision regarding the 2-year-old child murder case in Alucra, I hope you will publish it."
The fact that a father who has been trying for years to uncover the mystery behind his daughter's death will be imprisoned for his posts during this period has opened a deep wound in the public conscience and brought the Rabia Naz case to the forefront of Türkiye's agenda once again.
