Social media giant Meta has added two new security features to WhatsApp and Messenger in an effort to prevent online scams that specifically target older users.
WhatsApp will now automatically display a warning message if the user screen-shares during a video call with an unknown number. This step aims to prevent scammers from stealing personal data like banking information through screen-sharing.

8 million accounts blocked in 6 monthsThe company announced that it had shut down 8 million fraudulent accounts and reviewed more than 21,000 Facebook pages in the first half of 2025.
Meta stated that fraud attempts are increasing rapidly around the world and emphasized that the new features are especially aimed at protecting elderly users.
