Romania issues a clear warning: Russian drones violating airspace will be shot down

Romanian Defense Minister Ionuț Moșteanu stated in Bucharest that the country remains on high alert due to the detection of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) last night in an area near its northeastern border. Moșteanu noted that two F-16 fighter jets were deployed in response to the drone activity and that the area is under surveillance.
When asked about Russian drones violating Romanian airspace without permission, the minister said they would be shot down under a clear instruction: "The order to shoot down will definitely be given. There is an order that if Russian drones enter Romanian airspace without permission, they will be shot down immediately."
Moșteanu emphasized that Romania's airspace was not actually violated in last night's incident, but that drone activity very close to the border was repeated. Authorities noted that they detected the incidents and implemented immediate monitoring and response measures.
The statement demonstrates the strong security and sovereignty concerns in the region and demonstrates Romania's firm stance against border violations. As a NATO member state, Romania is taking steps to ensure air and land security in the region, including increased surveillance, air patrols, and, when necessary, military response capacity. Officials also stated that diplomacy and intelligence sharing are continuing to de-escalate tensions.
