Increase in Number of Passengers Using Tobacco Products on Airplanes

The General Directorate of Civil Aviation (SHGM) announced that a significant increase has been detected in the number of passengers using smoke-emitting devices or products such as cigarettes on board aircraft, despite the ban, and that additional measures have been taken.

Prioritizing flight safety, SHGM has examined written and verbal passenger and airline complaints received in recent days. In a circular titled Passenger Announcements published on the institution's official website, it was announced that a significant increase in passenger-related incidents was observed as a result of flight inspections. It was announced that the most frequent incidents included passengers using electronic cigarettes or tobacco products despite being prohibited, passengers risking flight safety during the flight and getting up before their seat belt warning lights went off, walking in the aisle and opening overhead lockers.

YOU MAY BE BLACKLISTED

SHGM requested that a 'Rule-breaking Passenger Detection Report' be prepared for passengers who do not heed the warnings. In addition to administrative fines, airlines also impose penalties such as blacklisting and not accepting flights on passengers who do not comply with the rules. SHGM also requested that cabin crew members inform passengers by making continuous announcements about certain issues during the flight. It was also requested that the warnings stating that reports kept about passengers will be reported to SHGM and that administrative fines will be imposed in accordance with the current legal regulations be revised in standard passenger announcements and cabin crew announcement handbooks specific to the companies and put into practice quickly.
