Apple is developing a new chip for smart glasses

Apart from virtual reality glasses, smart glasses have also become indispensable products of the technology world. After smart glasses that were used like headphones in the first stage, there are now many glasses models like Ray-Ban Meta that can record video and work in conjunction with artificial intelligence applications. Apple, which recently launched virtual reality glasses, has taken action for models that are both augmented reality supported and more target-oriented.

According to Bloomberg's report, Apple's initial goal is to produce potential smart glasses that will rival the Meta smart glasses. It is stated that the company has made considerable progress on a new chip to approach this goal and continue its unique line as always.

According to the information received, this chip that the company is working on is basically based on the chips used for the Apple Watch . However, it has also been stated that the company has made some customizations on this chip and redesigned it to be able to handle “multiple cameras” that smart glasses may have, along with new additions. Apple wants the mass production of the chip in question to begin at the end of 2026 or 2027, so the glasses will be announced after this time frame. At best, we are likely to encounter an announcement in the summer of 2027.

Apple, on the other hand, is also reportedly working on glasses that useaugmented reality , which sounds similar to what Meta is after. Meta introduced the Orion glasses last year. While these glasses won’t be available to the public, the company expects the second generation of these glasses to be available to consumers and could be released in 2027. So we can already say that there will be stiff competition in the smart glasses market for 2027.

Apple is also reportedly developing chips for the camera-equipped Apple Watch and AirPods , with those chips set to be ready “around 2027.” The company is also developing new M-series chips and special AI server chips, according to the report.
