She beat breast cancer with early diagnosis

Working as a cleaner at Etlik City Hospital Oncology Hospital, 51-year-old Demirler gained awareness thanks to the information boards he saw and the training he attended in the institution where he worked.

After self-examining herself at home and discovering a lump in her breast, Demirler consulted a hospital doctor the next day. Following the tests, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and thanks to early diagnosis, treatment was completed quickly.

Thanks to early diagnosis, Demirler defeated cancer in a short time and returned to work after regaining his health.

Demirler told an Anadolu Agency (AA) reporter, "There are boards on the walls of our hospital about early diagnosis of breast cancer, and I listened to the patient training at the hospital. Wondering if I might have breast cancer, I went home and did a self-examination, and a lump was found. The next day, I underwent tests and was diagnosed with breast cancer. I received my treatment and surgery, regained my health, and now I'm with my family and back to work."

Demirler, who stated that working one-on-one with her doctors gave her confidence, said, "No one should be afraid of the disease. When they call the Cancer Early Diagnosis, Screening, and Education Center (KETEM) for early diagnosis, they should go right away. Early diagnosis saves lives. Thanks to early diagnosis, I regained my health and returned to work. No one should be afraid of treatment. I was afraid at first, too. Once you have hope for your health, you overcome anything."

Etlik City Hospital Oncology Hospital Chief Physician Surgical Oncology Specialist Prof. Dr. Lütfi Doğan also provided information about the treatment process of his patient Demirler.

Doğan stated that Demirler, who noticed a lump in her breast during a self-examination, contacted them and was subsequently diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer.

Doğan, who stated that treatment intensity is less in cancers diagnosed early, said that thanks to early diagnosis, his patient Demirler did not have to have all of his armpit lymph nodes removed.

Prof. Dr. Doğan said, "Şenay's treatment has ended. She didn't have to stay away from her work, social life, or family for long. Thanks to early diagnosis, her return to her normal life was much quicker."

Doğan also provided information about the Integrated and Preventive Cancer Center at Etlik City Hospital, and noted:

Our center addresses other issues faced by our patients who have completed their treatments. Many issues, such as chemotherapy-related neuropathies, hair loss, psychological issues, weight gain, weight loss, and insomnia, persist even after the tumor is gone. At this center, we focus on these issues. Our patients come to this center, and in addition to tumor-related follow-ups, we strive to address other issues here. We also encourage our patients with a strong family history of breast cancer to regularly examine themselves before the age of 40.
