Reactions continue against the reactionary doctor: 'The result of reactionary policies that permeate public institutions'

Footage of Dr. Hasan Hüseyin Uysal, who works at Konya Meram Training and Research Hospital, refusing to treat a woman who came for an examination, claiming she was "naked and an exhibitionist," was shared on social media. The Ministry of Health's Healthy Solution Center announced the launch of an administrative investigation. Dr. Derya Uğur, General Health-İş President , made a statement to Cumhuriyet newspaper regarding the incident.
"NOT A CENTER FOR IMPOSING MORALS"
Uğur stated that Uysal has both trampled on the honor of a physician and prevented a citizen from accessing healthcare, a fundamental right. He said, “This unethical approach is a fundamental attack on women's right to life and the values of the Republic. The behavior displayed in the hospital room today clearly demonstrates the continuity and systematic nature of this mindset. The same individual is also known for his statements such as, "13-year-old girls can marry" and "Women's attire paves the way for prostitution."
"It must not be forgotten that healthcare institutions are not centers for imposing beliefs or morality, but rather scientific institutions where the right to life is guaranteed. Judging women based on their attire, subjecting them to insults and exclusion under the guise of morality, constitutes a rejection of both modern medicine and the achievements of the Republic. We will never accept their efforts to establish a stronghold in Türkiye's future," he said.
"IT SHOULD RESULT IN THE HEAVIEST PUNISHMENT"
Uğur, stating that what is happening today is a result of the political power's years of opening up space for religious communities and sects, and the reactionary policies that permeate public institutions, said, “This decay, felt in every area from education and justice to healthcare and social life, has reached a level that threatens citizens' most fundamental right to a healthy life. The fundamental values of the Republic are built on women's ability to live freely, to dress freely, and to enjoy equal citizenship rights under all circumstances. We know that every woman deprived of healthcare, every freedom attempted to be silenced, and every step taken under the shadow of a reactionary mindset is a direct attack on the Republic, secularism, and the principle of equal citizenship.”
Therefore, the investigation allegedly launched against the aforementioned individual must result in the harshest possible punishment, and similar mindsets must be prevented. As Genel Sağlık-İş, we declare with the resolve of Cumhuriyet: We will not surrender to this dark mindset! We will continue to stand as a wall against this mindset's efforts to dim our light. It is our duty to protect the freedom of all our citizens, secularism, and the light of science.
