Early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease saves lives

Nilüfer Doruk Hospital Neurology Specialist Dr. Filiz Gözeten Yetiker issued important warnings about Alzheimer's disease, highlighting the critical role of early diagnosis.
Neurologist Dr. Filiz Gözeten Yetiker, emphasizing that the most significant symptom of Alzheimer's disease is forgetfulness, said, "Patients who initially forget events from the recent past also have difficulty recalling memories from their past lives later on. This affects daily life activities and, over time, leaves the individual dependent on the care of others."
Neurology Specialist Dr. Yetiker stated that there is no definitive cure for the disease, but the process can be slowed down with early diagnosis and appropriate drug treatments, adding, "This protects the patients' quality of life and eases the burden on caregivers."
"Not to be confused with old age"
Dr. Filiz Gözeten Yetiker, a neurologist at Nilüfer Doruk Hospital, emphasized that forgetfulness and memory problems shouldn't be associated solely with aging, saying, "Forgetfulness shouldn't be seen as a natural part of aging. Early diagnosis makes a significant difference in the course of the disease and eases the burden on families."
Neurology Specialist Dr. Filiz Gözeten Yetiker warned those who have relatives with forgetfulness problems, stating that they should not be negligent about Alzheimer's and should consult neurology clinics.
