Oakley Meta Vanguard, the new line of AI performance eyewear designed for high-intensity sports

Meta unveiled the Oakley Meta Vanguard , a new line of high-performance eyewear powered by artificial intelligence (AI) designed for high-intensity sports, on September 18 at the Connect event.
The announcement was made by Mark Zuckerberg, who highlighted that this device expands the category launched earlier this year with the Oakley Meta HSTN.
Design and resistance The glasses feature a wraparound design with Oakley® PRIZM™ lens technology, optimized to block out sun, wind, and dust. They incorporate the Three-Point Fit system and three replaceable nose pads for a personalized fit.
They also have an IP67 rating, ensuring water and dust resistance. They are designed to be used with cycling helmets and caps.
Audio and communication The Oakley Meta Vanguard features open-back speakers that are six decibels more powerful than the previous version, allowing for improved performance in noisy environments.
They feature a five-microphone system designed to reduce wind noise during calls, messaging, or voice interactions with Meta AI.

The battery lasts up to nine hours of use or six hours of continuous music playback. The included charging case offers an additional 36 hours and allows for a 50% recharge in 20 minutes.
Sports features with Garmin and Strava The device connects to compatible Garmin equipment and the Strava app, allowing real-time metrics to be viewed without the need for screens or phones. Users can ask Meta AI for data like heart rate or pace, and receive signals via a peripheral LED indicating whether they're meeting their goals.

The glasses also include automatic video capture linked to sports achievements such as speed increases or altitude gains. With Strava, the recordings allow metrics to be overlaid and the content shared directly on social networks like Instagram, Facebook, or WhatsApp.
Camera and recording modes The central camera is 12 megapixels with a 122-degree wide-angle lens, capable of recording up to 3K. It offers modes like slow motion, hyperlapse, and adjustable stabilization. It's designed to capture workouts, downhill runs, or competitions from the athlete's perspective, hands-free.
Availability and price The Oakley Meta Vanguard will be available starting October 21 in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Australia, Germany, Sweden, Norway , Finland, Denmark, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. They will later arrive in Mexico, India, Brazil, and the United Arab Emirates.
The launch price will be $499 (approximately $1,942,421) and they can be reserved at meta.com and oakley.com.
