A 300-meter asteroid will pass close to Earth this Thursday.

MOSCOW (EFE).— An asteroid nearly 300 meters long , called 2025 FA22 , will pass close to Earth today, according to the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
It is one of the largest objects to approach this year, with a mass a thousand times greater than the meteorite that hit Chelyabinsk in 2013.
The research center explained that the celestial body would pass this Thursday "at a distance from Earth slightly greater than the diameter of the lunar orbit, and will approach the minimum distance around 10:00 Moscow time (07:00 GMT)."
This is 1 a.m. in Mérida.
With an average diameter of 166 meters and a length of nearly 290 meters, it would only be visible with 300-millimeter telescopes for advanced amateurs or professionals.
Despite its magnitude, the Laboratory noted that "the probability of such a body impacting the planet is minimal," and they therefore described the possibility of a collision as zero.
The scientists added that “the current trajectory, if maintained, will almost certainly miss the Earth and the Moon.”
Asteroid 2025 FA22 was first recorded on September 17, 1940, and according to astronomical calculations, it will make another close approach in September 2173 .
“ It should be noted that with this orbit, the chances of this rock ending its days impacting Earth are quite high ,” the astronomers concluded, although they reiterated that on this occasion it does not pose a risk.
