Mazón finally resigns and points the finger at Sánchez

The resignation announced yesterday by the president of the Valencian Community, Carlos Mazón , just days after the first anniversary of the devastating flash flood of October 29, 2024, completes the process of assigning political responsibility at the regional level for what happened. Salomé Pradas, the regional minister responsible for emergency management at the time of the disaster, was dismissed at the end of November last year by Mazón , who maintained at the time that he would remain at the head of the regional government to lead the reconstruction of the affected areas.
But the social pressure against him , as evidenced by the harsh recriminations from the victims' families at the state memorial held in Valencia a week ago, has ultimately forced his political downfall. Now the PP and Vox must reach an agreement to invest a successor to complete the legislature, or else early elections will be held in March.
Mazón apologized for the mistakes made, especially on the fateful day of the flood, although he also pointed to the guilt of the Prime Minister , whom he accused of not having helped the Valencian Community either in the toughest moments of the catastrophe or afterwards, which clashes with the numerous announcements by Pedro Sánchez to the contrary.
The truth is that neither he nor anyone in his cabinet or the agencies that depend on it , mainly the Júcar River Basin Authority, have assumed any responsibility for the blatant failures committed in controlling the river's flooding and in transmitting that data to the Valencian Executive.
