Diego Santilli will join the government's political team, replacing Guillermo Francos.

The new Interior Minister, Diego Santilli , will strengthen his presence in the National Cabinet and will occupy the position previously held by Guillermo Francos , the outgoing Chief of Staff, in the government's political working groups . Javier Milei's political group meets every Tuesday and serves as a forum for dialogue among the main leaders of La Libertad Avanza (Freedom Advances).
In addition to President Javier Milei , those attending these meetings include the Secretary General of the Presidency, Karina Milei ; presidential advisor Santiago Caputo ; the outgoing spokesperson and new Chief of Staff, Manuel Adorni ; and the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Martín Menem . Santilli's invitation reflects his growing involvement in the libertarian movement, particularly after José Luis Espert 's resignation during the election campaign.
The victory of La Libertad Avanza over Fuerza Patria in the legislative elections on Sunday, October 26, strengthened Santilli's position. Within the presidential circle, he is considered a leader "with experience, political clout, the ability to engage in dialogue, and charisma ." For this reason, the president appointed Santilli to head the Ministry of the Interior and lead the dialogue with provincial governors during the second phase of his term, during which he plans to implement significant reforms.
On the other hand, the libertarian government is currently delaying Santilli's swearing-in to ensure his participation in the upcoming sessions of the Chamber of Deputies, where the fate of the 2026 Budget bill submitted by the president will be decided. The Budget Committee is expected to convene on Tuesday the 4th, and the opposition hopes to secure its approval for the Lower House by the end of November.
However, the ruling party intends to delay consideration of the budget bill until after December 10, when the new Congress will be formed and the La Libertad Avanza coalition will have greater representation in both chambers. "We shouldn't take any risks; if Santilli takes office, there won't be a session. We need to be prudent," sources within the ruling party indicated.
