President Claudia Sheinbaum delivered her first report on Nuevo León.

Monterrey, Nuevo León. President Claudia Sheinbaum delivered her first statewide address in Monterrey, the third today under the state-by-state accountability model. The crowd chanted "President, President" when she announced that Jesús Antonio Esteva, head of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT), and Andrés Lajous, director of the Railway Transport Regulatory Agency, would be arriving this week to signal the start of the Saltillo-Nuevo Laredo train, which will pass through Monterrey.
"This week, Jesús, the Secretary of Infrastructure, and Andrés, the Director General of the Transportation Regulatory Agency, will be here the day after tomorrow to signal the start of the Saltillo-Nuevo Laredo train, which obviously passes through Monterrey."
She recalled that former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador built the Maya Train and the Interoceanic Corridor, which now extends a line from Oaxaca to Guatemala. "This year, the Mexico-Querétaro Train is being built, from there it connects with the Saltillo to Nuevo Laredo train. It is the Gulf of Mexico Train." Those attending her report chanted with her, "Gulf of Mexico," "which unites communities, boosts regional development, there is economic development there, it unites the center with the north. The passenger train is one of the very important works," the president stressed.
Another piece of news, he said, is that he will instruct the Secretary of the SICT to repave all the country's roads now that the rains are over. "Do you know what the program is called? Zero Potholes."
"We're going to build 10,000 National Housing Commission (Conavi) homes for non-beneficiaries, and another 50,000 new Infonavit homes for families earning less than two times the general minimum wage, with lower incomes," Sheinbaum Pardo emphasized.
She also announced that previously, Fovissste and Infonavit members had been paying and paying, and their debt hadn't gone down. "That's no longer the case. I've issued a decree, and 5 million families will benefit from discounts on their Infonavit debt. Have you gotten it yet?" she asked an attendee, who approached the president. "(This person) tells me that she's already received support so she can avoid paying her debt, her pension has already been increased, and now she has more resources because of her pension." The crowd chanted again: "President, President."
The governor confirmed that 758,000 people in Nuevo León will benefit from discounts on their Infonavit pensions, and their debt will already be discounted. Those who have not yet received this benefit will be assisted at the Infonavit and Fovissste offices.
More projects for the IMSS and educationSheinbaum Pardo indicated that a Family Medicine Unit (UMAE) is being built in San Nicolás de los Garza. She also said, "We are going to build Childcare and Education Centers, which used to be the former IMSS daycare centers, as well as the construction and maintenance of all IMSS UMAE centers and a Regional Hospital, which we recently opened; as well as two high school campuses, free centers for women in each municipality, and we will continue supporting Nuevo León."
Economy is doing very well"This year there has been good news, even though many thought things would go badly for Mexico, that we wouldn't be able to avoid the threat of tariffs, that we wouldn't be able to negotiate, they were left wanting! We Mexicans are a big player!" the Mexican president asserted.
He emphasized that Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) reached a record high in the first half of the year, higher than in 2024. The peso is strong, employment is doing well, there have been no problems, and things will get better because we are working together with the private sector.
"Historic news: between 2018 and 2024, poverty was reduced by 13.5 million people during President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's term, the lowest level of poverty in Mexico's history. Furthermore, there was a reduction in deep inequalities. We became the most unequal country, with the gap between the richest and the poorest being the largest on the continent, let alone the entire continent. Today, we are the second least unequal country on the continent after Canada," he stressed.
"What happened? The model of government and the development model changed. Two or three actions, a 135% increase in the minimum wage. Workers have earned more over the last six years. That's thanks to employers. It was a joint effort. We decided to raise wages, and they're going to grow by at least 12% each year. They'll be able to buy 2.5 basic food baskets. That's the commitment," the president emphasized.
Welfare Programs are promotedAnother achievement, he said, was that during this period, public works have recovered, with the Mayan Train, the Interoceanic Railway, and projects in Nuevo León such as the second aqueduct to resolve the water issue. He emphasized that tax revenue is allocated to welfare programs and public works, among other things.
In Nuevo León, more than 550,000 people receive a senior citizen pension, with 6,200 pesos every two months; support is provided to 32,800 people with disabilities; 2,484 young people are building their future; and 4,500 young people receive scholarships if they attend public universities. Now, 144,055 young people in high school also receive scholarships, as do 26,789 children in primary and preschool education. Support is provided to 10,000 agricultural producers; 1,490 schools are also supported through the "School is Ours" program, as well as 76 high schools.
The president noted that support is also being provided to women ages 60 to 64, "because we are the ones who primarily care for the children and look after the home. Women ages 63 to 64 have already been included; this year they will continue enrolling those 62 and then those 60 and 61. The other door-to-door health program involves 20,000 nurses and doctors to provide preventive health care, including this Farmacias del Bienestar program, providing free medications. In total, the welfare programs support 1,429,029 people, with an annual investment of 27,665 pesos "dedicated to the people of Nuevo León."
And she said goodbye with these words: "Most importantly, we're doing well and we're going to get better, because Mexico is great, there's no other country like Mexico, it's an extraordinary country, and when we're together, nothing can stop us."
