Betis beats AC Florence: Gosens' brace not enough for the Conference League final

In the semifinal second leg, German international Robin Gosens turned things around, scoring two goals to send his Fiorentina into extra time. However, the match was quickly followed by a cold shower. Real Betis advanced to the Conference League final, where Chelsea, the heavy favorite, awaited.

Despite a brace from national team player Robin Gosens, the traditional Italian club AC Fiorentina missed the Conference League final. Fiorentina forced extra time against Real Betis, but were eliminated in the semifinals after a 2-2 (2-1, 2-1) draw. Betis won the first leg in Spain 2-1.

In the final, Sevilla will face favorite Chelsea, who comfortably defeated Swedish underdogs Djurgardens IF. The final of the third-tier European competition will take place on May 28 in Wroclaw, Poland.

In Florence, Gosens (34th, 42nd) turned the game around with two headers from corners after Brazilian Antony (30th) had given the visitors the lead with a stunning free kick. Gosens was substituted in the 95th minute, and shortly afterwards, Abde (97th) scored the deciding goal for Sevilla. Florence could have advanced to the Conference League final for the third time in a row – they lost both finals.

Chelsea won their home game 1-0 (1-0) in a lackluster manner, following their 4-1 victory in the semi-final first leg. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (38') scored the winner for the Blues, who fielded an improved B team. Chelsea nevertheless dominated the game throughout, with Djurgårdens lacking the necessary skill.
