Belinda Bencic advances to the second round at Wimbledon at express pace

(sda) Belinda Bencic reached the second round of the Grand Slam tournament in Wimbledon with a focused performance. She impressed with a focused performance on Tuesday. Bencic immediately took control against American Alycia Parks, winning 6-0, 6-3 in just 63 minutes.

Bencic, currently ranked 35th in the world, returned to Wimbledon after a year's break and as the mother of a 14-month-old daughter. Bencic had to fend off the only two break opportunities from Parks, ranked 60th in the world, at 4-3 in the second set. Although the usually strong server made things easy for her with a plethora of errors, Bencic played extremely cleverly, moved superbly, and dispelled any doubts about her fitness.

Bencic had to miss the French Open due to an arm injury. At the only preparatory tournament in Bad Homburg, she suffered a decisive first-round loss a week ago. However, a lot now seems possible, as her scheduled third-round opponent, Jessica Pegula, has already been eliminated.

The 28-year-old from Eastern Switzerland was the only member of the Swiss quartet to reach the second round. There, Bencic will face Polish No. 27 Magda Linette or Frenchwoman Elsa Jacquemot (WTA 113) on Thursday.
