Showering in the morning or evening? Microbiologist explains the correct routine

Many swear by showering in the evening, others by showering in the morning. But what does science say? An expert explains when showering has the best effects.
The question of whether it's better to shower in the morning or in the evening is a concern for many. While morning showerers cite it as an energizing start to the day, evening showerers appreciate the relaxing effect before bedtime.
Both showering habits have their advantages – but what about the scientific perspective? The Spanish news portal " La Nacion " reported on this topic, gathering expert opinions that reveal interesting differences.
During the day, allergens and dirt accumulate on your skin. Showering in the evening reduces the transfer of these particles to your bedding, resulting in fewer allergens entering your sleeping area.
However, showering in the morning eliminates the bacteria and skin cells that have accumulated during the night.
A microbiologist from England has now established that showering in the morning has clear benefits. According to the expert, who was quoted in "La Nacion," you start the day with fewer bacteria and skin cells, which leads to a better smell throughout the day.
Regularly washing your bedding is also crucial. At least once a week, you should clean your bedding to remove bacteria, skin cells, and oils. This preventative measure prevents allergies and the buildup of dust mites, which can negatively impact your sleeping environment.
- Cleanse skin thoroughly : Use mild shower gel or soap to remove dirt, sweat and bacteria, especially from underarms, intimate areas and feet.
- Wash your hair regularly : Use shampoo every 1–3 days, depending on your hair type, to keep your scalp clean and prevent dandruff.
- Use lukewarm water : Water that is too hot dries out the skin; lukewarm water protects the skin barrier and prevents irritation.
- Clean shower head : Descale and disinfect regularly to prevent bacterial buildup such as Legionella.
- Change towels frequently : Wash towels every 3–4 uses to prevent germs and mold growth; allow them to dry thoroughly.
