Award: Station of the Year offers not only good connections
Contemporary and well-connected: Magdeburg Central Station is the Station of the Year 2025. A jury selected the station in Saxony-Anhalt's state capital, according to a press release from the transport alliance Allianz pro Schiene eV. Following renovations, it scored particularly well in the categories of "quality of stay and connecting mobility." This is the fourth title for a Station of the Year for the state.
The main station has undergone a "remarkable upgrade" over the past ten years, according to the ten-member jury. "New entrances ensure short distances to trams and buses, fresh colors and green areas make the station more welcoming and enhance the quality of stay."
Green spaces and bicycle parking garageFor example, Kölner Platz has been redesigned with seating, green spaces, and a 250-space bicycle parking garage. Final work is currently underway there, and the square will be accessible from December 10, Deutsche Bahn announced in response to an inquiry.
The jury also noted that Magdeburg 's train station scored highly for its cleanliness, numerous shopping options, a play area in the waiting room, and an "overall high quality of stay." All platforms are equipped with elevators, making them barrier-free.
Before Magdeburg, the main train stations in Saxony-Anhalt in Halle (Saale, 2023), Lutherstadt Wittenberg (2017), and Halberstadt (2011) were already honored as Stations of the Year. The Allianz pro Schiene (Pro-Rail Alliance) has been awarding this title since 2004. The focus is on the perspective of passengers, it said. The jury includes representatives from the German Transport Club, the passenger association Pro Bahn, and the German Rail Customers Association.
