Gmail is broken on these popular devices but there's a simple way to fix it

If you are suffering from an annoying screen glitch when trying to check your Gmail messages, you aren't alone. Users of some Samsung devices are currently reporting extreme screen flickering when using the Gmail app. Others have confirmed that text is disappearing, whilst more reports say users are simply seeing a white box and nothing else. Venting their frustration, one user called Jeremiah said in a post on X, "@gmail, when will the Android work again on folding phones like my Samsung Fold? Day 4 now of this flickering issue on the inner screen is unacceptable!"
Posting on Google's forum pages, another user said, "When I try to open an email it flickers and makes it unreadable.
"I have used the force stop, I have cleared the cache and I have restarted my tablet. I have also updated. Nothing has worked."
In response to the complaints, a product expert said the issue is related to the Android System WebView - a built-in Android system component that allows apps to display web pages directly within the application.
"It seems that some devices, like Samsung tablets, are experiencing occasional issues with Android System WebView," Kimiya Kitani explained.
"The issue has already been escalated to Google."
It's unclear just how many people are suffering from the problems, but it appears that Samsung's foldable phones, such as the Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy tablets, have been hardest hit.
The good news is that those affected can try a temporary workaround to stop the error.
According to Kitani, simply rotating the device can put an end to the screen gremlins.
"Switching screen orientation (the easiest user-reported workaround): With email open in portrait mode, rotate the device to landscape mode," the product expert explained.
"Confirm that the screen displays correctly, then rotate it back to portrait mode."
For now, that seems to be the easiest fix. With Google now aware of the issue, hopefully, a full fix will be released soon.
