Beatrice Chebet breaks world record

Kenyan athlete Beatrice Chebet broke a world record with a time of 13 minutes and 58.06 seconds in the Oregon leg of the Diamond League, becoming the first woman in history to run 5,000 meters in less than 14 minutes.
Beatrice Chebet, who won gold medals in both the 5,000 and 10,000 metre events at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, was trailed by Ethiopian Gudaf Tsegay and Kenyan Agnes Jebet Ngetich for much of the race in the US.
The trio of Chebet, Tsegay and Ngetich, who widened the gap towards the end of the race, were able to compete among themselves.
Chebet improved Tsegay's world record by 2.15 seconds, while Ngetich came in second with a time of 14 minutes, 01.29 seconds and Tsegay came in third with a time of 14 minutes, 04.41 seconds.
