They did it for the first time in history. The government took control of a Chinese semiconductor manufacturer.

For the first time in history, the Dutch government invoked the provisions of the "Availability of Goods" Act, which has been in force for over 70 years, and took control of the semiconductor component manufacturer Nexperia.
Nexperia was acquired by the Chinese technology company Wingtech Technology Co. for $3.6 billion in 2018 and has since operated in Europe, mainly in the Netherlands, as well as in Asia and the United States.
The company's official headquarters is still located in Nijmegen, the Netherlands , and the total employment is over 12,500 employees.
The decision to take over control was made after identifying indications of significant management problems within the company, which could pose a threat to the key competences and technological capabilities of the Netherlands and Europe, and their loss could put economic security at risk, the government statement reads.
The Dutch authorities demand that the Chinese Wingtech suspend planned changes to assets and business solutions and refrain from personnel changes at Nexperia for at least a year.
The company is crucial for the automotive, consumer electronics and defense industries and will continue to operate normally, but the Dutch government will have the right to block or overturn certain management decisions.
