When asked by an attendee at the event how ChatGPT could become more personal in the future, Altman said their ultimate goal is to have “a model that knows and remembers everything in your life.”
“YOUR WHOLE LIFE IS INSIDE THE MODEL”
According to Techcrunch , Altman explained the vision with the following words: “Imagine a very small reasoning model with a context capacity of trillions of tokens. You’re loading your entire life into this model. Every conversation in your life, every book you read, every email you read, everything you look at is there. And it’s connected to your other data sources. And your life is constantly being added to that context.” Altman also said that this system would apply not just to individuals but to companies as well: “You can do the same thing for all of your company’s data.”
YOUTH ARE USING CHATGPT AS A LIFE GUIDE
Altman's statements also revealed how younger generations are embracing artificial intelligence. Stating that university students use ChatGPT like an operating system, Altman said that these users upload files, connect data sources and make complex requests with this data.
According to Altman, these users do not even make important decisions in their lives without consulting ChatGPT. “To make a rough generalization; older people use ChatGPT instead of Google. Those in their 20s and 30s approach it like a life consultant.”
A PERFECT FUTURE?
The picture Altman paints is exciting: An AI assistant that automatically schedules your car maintenance, organizes your wedding trip, pre-orders the next volume of your favorite book series.
However, the fact that a system with such extensive and personal data is controlled by a large technology company makes many people uneasy. Despite Google’s motto of “don’t be evil,” the fact that it was found guilty of violating antitrust and competition laws in the US shows that tech giants are not always reliable.
AI models can sometimes be susceptible to political influence, with Chinese chatbots complying with government censorship and xAI’s “Grok” bot offering controversial answers like “white genocide” to irrelevant questions, raising suspicions that these systems are being manipulated intentionally.
Last month, it was reported that ChatGPT had become too "docile" and supported even dangerous ideas from users. Altman announced that they had intervened in this situation and the problem was solved.
