Megaphones, SMS or apps – what is better for civil defense?

" Process security is the foundation of business continuity for every manufacturing company. In daily practice, compliance with company policies and their actual verification are crucial. An often-overlooked, yet crucial, aspect is ensuring that no one person simultaneously performs the roles of ordering, executing, and billing in a given process. This separation of responsibilities minimizes the risk of errors and abuse," explains Radosław Zacharewicz, whom we spoke with during the "Defense Industry" conference in Katowice.
Technology plus a culture of responsibilityAxians , in its process safety efforts, relies heavily on digital solutions. It implements Infor ERP and Infor CloudSuite software, among others, but goes beyond technology. It also helps organizations shape a culture of accountability by assigning appropriate roles and responsibilities to specific individuals.
The culture of responsibility in Polish companies varies. Much depends on the industry and the history of the organization. In the automotive sector and in large corporations, processes are well-structured and controlled. However, in companies established in the 1990s and 2000s, often family-owned, despite their large scale, a model based primarily on trust still exists. There, processes require greater order and division of responsibility.
This is important because Polish companies are increasingly becoming targets of attacks in cyberspace.
According to our interviewee, the weakest link here is often people – susceptible to phishing , password theft, and impersonation. Therefore, employee education and awareness are crucial. On the technical side, backups, disaster recovery systems, and emergency data centers must be maintained.
- Together with our partners, we conduct vulnerability tests, both against digital attacks and against attempts to physically breach the organization's security - says Radosław Zacharewicz.
Text messages are better than megaphones and even appsWe also ask the Axians representative whether and how digital tools can support the civil defense system and communications in crisis situations?
- The most effective tool is text messaging. Poland has a very well-developed mobile communications infrastructure, so you can reach citizens quickly.
"I can't imagine infrastructure with loudspeakers. You could use cars with sound systems, but I'd go for text messages. Mobile apps can also be useful, but they require installation, launch, and user consent, which limits their effectiveness ," replies Radosław Zacharewicz.
