After months of delays, Apple has officially announced its highly anticipated next-generation CarPlay technology. This system, which will now be known as “CarPlay Ultra,” aims to offer a significant transformation in in-car technologies. CarPlay Ultra, which was first introduced in the US and Canada with Aston Martin brand vehicles, will be integrated into existing Aston Martin models with a software update.
According to Apple's statement, Hyundai, Kia and Genesis brands are also working on CarPlay Ultra support, but a clear timetable has not yet been shared for these brands.
INTEGRATED TO ALL SCREENS
CarPlay Ultra can control not only the infotainment screen in the vehicle, but also all digital screens in the vehicle. In this context, classic vehicle screens such as speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge are also integrated into the CarPlay interface.
In addition, the driver can control many features such as air conditioning, radio, driving modes and driving assistance systems via touch screens or Siri voice commands. Tools such as calendar and weather forecast on the iPhone can also be reflected on the vehicle screen.
BRAND-SPECIFIC THEMES
Apple partners with vehicle manufacturers to develop interface themes specific to each brand. For example, the CarPlay Ultra experience in Aston Martin vehicles comes with a brand-specific visual theme.
CarPlay Ultra is initially only available on Aston Martin models, which is a limitation for now in terms of its widespread use. Apple has previously tested CarPlay Ultra on Porsche models, but there is no firm release date for other brands.
For customers in the U.S. and Canada, CarPlay Ultra is standard equipment on Aston Martin DBX, Vantage, DB12 and Vanquish models. The company plans to expand support to all Aston Martin models worldwide over the next 12 months.
