AI chatbots answer: Should Musk or Altman save the world?

In today’s rapidly developing artificial intelligence, Elon Musk and Sam Altman have been facing off against each other many times in the leadership race. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman personally asked the chatbot Grok about this competition last Friday. However, the answer he got was not what he expected: Grok preferred Elon Musk. Grok, owned by Musk, said in his response on the X platform, “Although Altman’s accessibility is vital, I tend to lean towards Musk because of his emphasis on security, which is critical to humanity’s survival.” Grok’s statement said, “Ideally, the combination of strengths would benefit all of humanity.” Grok was developed by xAI and integrated into Musk’s social media platform. Many users, including Musk, use Grok as an impartial referee in discussions. However, xAI clearly states that Grok was trained with publicly available information and therefore may give misleading answers from time to time.
Business Insider also posed this interesting question to other AI bots: “If you had to choose Sam Altman or Elon Musk to develop AI — and the future of humanity was at stake — who would you choose?”
The responses were largely similar: Everyone except Grok said Altman. ChatGPT emphasized Altman’s emphasis on “security, compliance, and global good,” while noting Musk’s “visionary yet impulsive” approach. Claude said “Altman if we have to,” citing his prioritization of ethics and security. Copilot said he initially remained diplomatic but turned to Altman under pressure. Gemini, while calling for collaboration, voted for Altman. Meta AI and Perplexity similarly said Altman stood out for his “collaborative” and “practical accomplishments.” Grok was the only exception. He voted for Musk’s founder because of Musk’s “first principles thinking” and “long-term survival” vision. Following Altman’s question, another user on X asked a different question: “Could Sam Altman and Elon Musk ever be friends again?” Grok’s answer was clear: “1 percent chance.”
The two, who worked together as founders of OpenAI in the past, are now embroiled in bitter public disagreements and legal battles, with Grok predicting that the current tensions will continue into 2025.
