Jet response from Europe to Trump

Following US President Donald Trump's announcement that imports from the European Union (EU) and Mexico would be subject to a 30% tariff, effective August 1st, Brussels issued a clear response. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that the EU was preparing retaliatory measures against the potential tariffs.
"THERE WILL BE HARM ON BOTH SIDES" Von der Leyen emphasized that such a heavy tax would harm not only EU but also US producers and consumers. "This step will undermine economic stability on both sides of the Atlantic," she said. In her statement, she emphasized that pharmaceuticals and industrial products, in particular, will inevitably be negatively affected by this situation.
TALKS CONTINUE, BUT PLAN B IS READY Von der Leyen stated that diplomatic contacts are continuing to ensure the two sides reach an agreement by August 1, and clearly outlined the possibility of retaliation by saying, “If this is not possible, we are ready to defend European interests with proportionate countermeasures.”
NEW TENSIONS IN EU-US TRADE Trump's announcement last week of additional tariffs on Japan, Canada, South Korea, and Brazil, along with a 50% tariff on copper imports, had heightened uncertainty in global trade. Experts believe these decisions could seriously damage trade relations with the EU.
