New category added to Golden Globe Awards

This year, the Golden Globe Awards have added a new category: Best Podcast of the Year. The award will be presented for the first time at the ceremony to be held on January 11, 2026.

Golden Globes President Helen Hoehne said in a statement about the new category, “As the world of entertainment continues to change, we are excited to recognize new forms of narrative.” Hoehne emphasized that while we embrace traditional categories, we also want to make room for innovative formats and new voices.

According to the announcement, only podcasts that make it into the top 25 by stream rate will be considered for this award, with six finalists nominated. The category will cover narrative, video, interview and news-based podcasts. Extensive eligibility criteria are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

The ceremony will be hosted for the second time by comedian Nikki Glaser. Glaser said in March that her first hosting experience was one of the most fun of her career. “This time I will be in front of The White Lotus team and I hope they bring me into the fourth season of the show as a Scandinavian pilates instructor with a dark past,” the comedian joked.
