Kartal Tibet, who became unforgettable with the characters he portrayed in many movies and TV series such as "The Brave One from Karaoğlan-Altay", "The Girl Who Costs Death", "A Nation Awakes", "Wren", "Fatih'in Fedaisi", "Küçük Hanımefendi", "Tarkan" and "Yumurcak", is being remembered on the 4th anniversary of his death.

Tibet, one of Yeşilçam's master actors, director and screenwriter, was born on March 27, 1938 in Ankara to teacher parents.

Tibet appeared on stage at the Ankara Children's Radio's performances when she was only 10 years old, started to speak in the lead roles in the "Ayşe Abla" plays at the Radio Children's Club and then played children's roles in adult plays at the State Theaters.

Kartal Tibet, who came first in Ankara in primary, secondary, high school and university competitions with the poetry he recited, worked as a physical education teacher after graduating from Ankara College, and then graduated from law school upon his father's request.

After graduating from the Ankara University State Conservatory Theatre Department, the master actor took part in a play written by Albert Camus and staged by Mahir Canova in 1960.

The master artist, who directed 4 plays and took part in 20 plays at the Meydan Sahnesi, the first private theater in Ankara, which he took part in the establishment of, described these years as follows: "I wanted to make my own decisions about myself. I was still young. If I couldn't do it, the State Theater was waiting with open arms. We were the children of that home back then. We founded the first private theater in Ankara with 3-4 artist friends who had left the State Theaters like me. It was no different from the State Theaters. The cast of the State Theaters was also performing."

The artist married Gündüz Sencer in 1963, and the couple had two children, Kanat, in 1964, and Kumru, in 1973.

He stepped into Yeşilçam in 1965

Kartal Tibet stepped into Yeşilçam with the film "Karaoğlan: The Brave One from Altay" in 1965 upon the offer of Suat Yalaz.

While Cüneyt Arkın, who appeared before the audience as the comic book characters "Malkoçoğlu" and "Kara Murat", increased the popularity of his adventure films, Karaoğlan's Central Asian adventures continued with the films "Karaoğlan: Baybora'nın Oğlu" (1966), "Karaoğlan: Camoka'nın Revenge" (1967), "Karaoğlan: Byzantine Zorba" (1972), "Karaoğlan: Yeşil Ejder" (1972), and "Karaoğlan Geliyor" (1972).

The artist, who took part in the 1969 film adaptation of the "Tarkan" character drawn by Sezgin Burak, played the leading role in the films "Tarkan: The Silver Saddle" in 1970, "Tarkan: Viking Blood" in 1971, "Tarkan: The Golden Medallion" in 1972 and "Tarkan: The Strong Hero" in 1973.

In addition to serial films, Kartal Tibet also appeared before the audience with his masterful acting in the films "Sancakbey Murad", "An Ottoman Warrior", "A Thief in Baghdad" and "English Kemal", in the melodramas "Ivy Roses" and "Empty Frame", and in the adaptations of many novels such as "Zambaklar Açarken" and "Çalıkuşu".

Kemal Sunal directed films and television series

Tibet took the director's chair in the film "Tosun Pasha" in 1977 and dealt with social issues in more than 20 films starring Kemal Sunal.

Tibet, who in the films he directed dealt with funny stories of ordinary people rebelling against morally corrupt politicians and injustice, also produced funny but dramatic social films from the second half of the 1980s onwards.

Tibet directed 56 films, most of which were successful at the box office, more than 20 of which starred Kemal Sunal. After these blockbuster films, Tibet took the director's chair in the series "Super Baba", "Yasemince", "Emret Komutanım" and "Ah Bir Zengin Olsam" with the beginning of the television era in the 1990s. In the 2000s, with the desire to revive the classics of Turkish cinema, he directed the films "Hababam Sınıfı Merhaba" (2003) and "Dünyayı Kurtaran Adamın Oğlu" (2006).

The artist, who received the "Lifetime Achievement Award" at the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival in 2002, was deemed worthy of the "Yıldırım Önal Memorial Award" in 2006.

Tibet, who contributed to Yeşilçam with nearly 200 films and was deemed worthy of many awards, passed away on July 1, 2021 at the age of 83.
