President Erdoğan commemorated Fuat Sezgin

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan commemorated Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin with mercy on the 7th anniversary of his death.

Erdoğan, in his post on social media, said, "I respectfully commemorate our great scientist Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin, who has presented a groundbreaking vision in the fields of Islam, science and technology with his work and the works he has written, on the 7th anniversary of his passing."

WHO IS FUAT SEZGİN? Born in Bitlis on October 24, 1924, Fuat Sezgin completed middle school and high school in Erzurum and came to Istanbul in 1943. Sezgin, who was a student of German orientalist Helmut Ritter, one of the most renowned experts in his field, at the Istanbul University Oriental Studies Institute, turned to Islamic sciences upon Ritter's advice. Sezgin was fluent in 27 languages, including Syriac, Hebrew, Latin, Arabic and German. The Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin Islamic Science History Research Foundation was established in 2010 to support the activities of the Istanbul Islamic Science and Technology Museum.

The Istanbul Museum of the History of Islamic Science and Technology, founded under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin, was deemed worthy of the 2016 Special Award of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in the status of an institution due to its superior quality and original works.

Sezgin passed away in 2018.
