Minister Şimşek: The annual current account deficit in May stood at $16 billion.

Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek stated on social media, “The foreign trade and current account balances are in line with our expectations. We expect the current account deficit to remain at sustainable levels, below our MTP forecast of approximately 1.5 percent this year. The improvement in the current account balance achieved through our program reduces the need for external financing and the ratio of external debt to national income. These developments strengthen our macrofinancial stability and increase the resilience of our economy.”
