Burning areas in Çanakkale captured! Two villages evacuated

A fire broke out in a forest near the village of Ilgardere in the Gelibolu district around 3:00 PM yesterday. The flames spread over a wide area, driven by wind. Numerous teams from the Çanakkale Regional Directorate of Forestry were dispatched to the scene following a report.

The fire was fought by 9 aircraft, 6 helicopters, 143 land vehicles and 391 personnel from the ground.

126 people were evacuated

Due to the fire, 126 people in the villages of Pazarlı and Ilgardere in the Gelibolu district were evacuated as a precaution. As night fell, ground firefighting efforts continued throughout the night. The fire was largely under control by around 12:30 a.m. While ground firefighting continued, aircraft were also deployed at first light.

While efforts to completely extinguish the fire continue, damaged areas were viewed from the air with a drone. (DHA)
