The dream comes true: the 2031 Ryder Cup will be held in Catalonia.

A few decades ago, Walt Disney said that, if you pursue them, "dreams can come true." And few have pursued the dream of hosting a Ryder Cup as much as the Camiral (formerly PGA Catalunya) bid, supported by all the institutions, some more fervently than others. It has taken many years of work and struggle to achieve a credible and convincing project. A tireless effort that has yielded the best of results. In 2031, the Ryder Cup, the biannual competition that pits Europe against the United States for the simple honor of victory, undoubtedly the most legendary in the world of golf, will land in Catalonia. For the second time in its more than century-long history, it will set foot on Spanish soil.

If in 1997, through Severiano Ballesteros, the Real Club Golf de Valderrama became the first European Ryder Cup venue outside the Canary Islands, in 2031 Camiral will make history again, hosting a competition that attracts tens of thousands of fans, gathers millions of people in front of their televisions and leaves a strong and consolidated legacy for the future.

After a very intense last year, with many ups and downs in the negotiations, and a tremendous amount of work by the Camiral bidder to meet all the organization's requirements, the agreement has been finalized. It's now a reality, although the official announcement isn't expected until July 22nd. That will happen on U.S. soil once the final details regarding the state's contribution to the tournament are ironed out.

The deal is closed and the official announcement is scheduled for the 22nd in the United States.

For several years now, the Ryder Cup has had its route mapped out through 2033. Starting with this year's edition at Bethpage Black, followed by the 2027 edition at Adare Manor (Ireland), the 2029 edition at Hazeltine (Minnesota), and the 2033 edition at The Olympic (San Francisco). All that remained was to fill the 2031 slot, which now has a winner: Camiral.

Just because the deal is already closed and a done deal doesn't mean everything is already decided. In fact, there are some details to iron out, preferably before the official announcement on the 22nd. The one currently on the table is the final name of the bid, of the event. Combining the names of Costa Brava, Barcelona , Catalonia, and Spain is being considered to reach the widest possible audience and better market the tournament, to place the public first and foremost. But it's clear that combining them all could have the opposite effect. So, the talks are currently centered on this issue, once everything else has been finalized.

After many years of work and the support of virtually every public institution, and also highlighting the unconditional support of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, which has faced considerable pressure to steal the Ryder Cup from Camiral, especially from Madrid, the stars have finally aligned. Although the announcement was due to be made at the end of 2024, a cut in budgetary support from the Generalitat (Catalan government) has forced it to be delayed until now . Once that money was offset with private support, in a final, major effort, everything has materialized.

The final details include the name of the event, with Barcelona, Catalonia, Costa Brava and Spain bidding.

The only reality is that the Ryder Cup will be played at Camiral in 2031, and there's no better news for Catalan and Spanish golf. It's a dream come true.
