The AEMPS (Spanish Agency for the Protection of Public Health) recalls batches of contact lens disinfectants distributed by Disop.
The Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS) announced this Tuesday the recall of certain batches of 3% peroxide disinfectant systems for contact lenses , distributed by Disop, due to the possibility that the neutralizing tablets may not dilute correctly in the required time.
The presence of unneutralized peroxide in the solution can cause adverse effects if it comes into contact with the ocular surface through the lens . These include irritation, pain, inflammation, redness, osmotic keratitis, eyelid swelling, conjunctival hyperemia, or even ocular burns.
Disop has already sent a warning note to users, distributors, and healthcare facilities informing them of the problem detected and the necessary actions. It has also published a list of the affected brands, references, and batch numbers in Spain.
People with these products should stop using them immediately, but without discarding them, as they can contact the establishment where they purchased them for a return. If you have used them or notice any eye discomfort, the AEMPS (Spanish Association of Medical Professionals) has recommended thoroughly rinsing your eyes with plenty of saline solution or sterile artificial tears, as well as consulting an eye care professional.
For healthcare professionals, the agency has advised reviewing their inventory to locate affected products and batches , after which they should be separated and quarantined, without distribution or use, and awaiting specific instructions from the manufacturer for their removal.
If any affected product has been supplied to other distributors or centers, the advisory notice addressed to customers must be sent. If it has been distributed to end users, the advisory notice addressed to users must be sent and they must be informed of the measures to be taken, including monitoring for possible symptoms and recommending that they consult with an eye care professional.
