The Basque chain Silken takes the international leap and opens an eco-hotel in Portugal.

The Basque hotel chain Silken has announced the opening of its first property in Portugal, a 4-star, 39-room eco-hotel (a property with a sustainable focus). The Silken Mezio National Park will be located at Porta do Mezio, one of the main entrances to the Peneda-Gerês National Park, one of the most famous natural sites in the north of the country, an hour from Vigo and very close to Braga.
"The Silken Mezio National Park represents a new milestone in our commitment to offering soulful accommodations in unique locations. Portugal is a strategic market for the brand, and we couldn't have found a better place to begin this journey," said Javier Villanueva, the company's General Manager, in a statement.
According to the statement, the new establishment will be focused on corporate customers, leisure travelers, and small meetings and events, thanks to a multifunctional room. The hotel's services also include a wellness center and spa, a heated pool, a sauna, and a Turkish bath. The dining experience will be similar to that already offered by Silken throughout its portfolio, based on local produce and featuring both indoor and outdoor dining.
"Our goal is to offer experiences that connect with the destination's natural and cultural environment, without sacrificing the quality and attention to detail that has always distinguished us," adds Villanueva. The surrounding area offers opportunities for nature tourism, thanks to its proximity to the Peneda-Gêres National Park. The nearby Porta do Mezio is also a cultural attraction, serving as one of the five entrances to the Peneda-Gêres National Park.
