Urtasun suggests that Spain should not participate in Eurovision if Israel is present.

Culture Minister and Sumar spokesperson Ernest Urtasun on Monday suggested that Spain should not participate in the next edition of the Eurovision Song Contest , to be held in Vienna, Austria, if Israel is present.
He said this in an interview on La 1, when asked if he was in favor of following in the footsteps of Slovenia, a country that has already announced that it will not participate in the next edition of Eurovision if Israel performs.
In his response, Urtasun recalled that "we once requested Israel's expulsion from Eurovision." Despite making it clear that Spain's participation in the competition is "a decision of RTVE," he clarified that "if Israel participates and we fail to expel it, measures like the one you mention will have to be taken."
In his opinion, "we cannot normalize Israel's participation in international forums as if nothing were happening," which served as a reason for him to celebrate the pro-Palestinian protests taking place at La Vuelta.
In this regard, he commented that in both La Vuelta and Eurovision, despite being events featuring athletes or artists, "there is a certain representation of the country," and "this cannot be."
It is worth remembering that in his appearance last May before the Joint Committee for Parliamentary Control of the RTVE Corporation and its Companies, the president of RTVE, José Pablo López , announced that the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) had sent him a letter in which "it is open to opening a joint reflection" on Israel's participation in Eurovision in response to the letter that the Corporation sent to this entity asking it to reconsider the presence of the Hebrew country in the festival.
