This is the city in Colombia where Mother's Day is not celebrated on May 11. Why?

This Sunday, May 11th, Mother's Day is celebrated in much of Colombia, a day that not only celebrates mothers but also boosts commerce. However, there is one area of Colombia where this date is commemorated at the end of the month. Why is that?
This is Cúcuta and a large part of the department of Norte de Santander, where the celebration of mothers will take place on the last Sunday of May.

There are several versions that explain this change, related to key events that ended up permeating culture and tradition.
One theory suggests that the date change came about after the earthquake that hit Cúcuta on May 8, 1875, and that the celebrations were postponed by two weeks to respect the mourning process experienced by the families of the 14,000 people who died as a result of the natural disaster.
Thus, this became a tradition passed down from generation to generation.
Another reason may have been the delay in the transport of some goods in the 1930s for that month of May, so the celebration was postponed a few weeks so that merchants would not be affected.
“Years ago, due to external events, a foreign shipment failed to arrive in time for the second Sunday in May, which affected the city's commerce. Merchants then requested an extension to allow time for the merchandise to arrive and allow them to celebrate Mother's Day,” Maribel Pérez Lemus, a teacher from Norte de Santander, explained to the media.

For this year, the Diocese of Cúcuta has announced that the celebration will be May 25th. This same entity indicates that the first Mother's Day celebration in Cúcuta dates back to May 31, 1925.
According to this version, it was Father Demetrio Mendoza who started the tradition, in order to give it a spiritual and religious meaning , beyond the commercial.
