These are the ten most anticipated films for this season

The calendar of major film festivals, which runs from late summer to early fall in the Northern Hemisphere, is already underway. And with those dates set, along with the titles that will premiere at each of them, we begin to glimpse what might happen in the upcoming awards season, leading up to the 2026 Oscars.
What began to be seen at the Venice Film Festival and Telluride (Colorado) a week ago will continue its journey to Toronto (September 4-14), San Sebastián (September 19-27), and New York (September 26-October 13). Everything projected at these events focuses on and defines what we'll see over the next six months. Here's a list of the top 10 projects right now.
'Witch Hunt' by Luca Guadagnino A blend of drama and thriller set on a college campus, it reportedly addresses themes such as the impact of #MeToo on the world of high culture, cancel culture, and freedom of expression.
Julia Roberts (already mentioned as an early contender for this season's major Hollywood awards) is a teacher who faces a personal and professional dilemma when one of her colleagues (Andrew Garfield) is accused of inappropriate behavior by the top student in his class (Ayo Edebiri). 'House of Dynamite' by Kathryn Bigelow The first woman in history to win the Oscar for best director, for The Hurt Locker (2010), returns to the feature film after eight years with the story of an imminent missile attack on the White House and the tense preparations inside the government headquarters to confront that threat.
The stellar cast is led by three great British actors: Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, and Jared Harris. The film will premiere on Netflix on October 25.
'Is This Working?' by Bradley Cooper With his new film, inspired by the life of British comedian John Bishop amidst a divorce and a decline in his career as a stand-up comedian, Cooper found a new partner in Will Arnett, who serves as both the lead and co-writer. It's rumored that this third film directed by Cooper (who reserves a significant supporting role) could follow in the footsteps of A Star Is Born and Maestro , with a prominent place in the upcoming awards season. It's not yet known when the film will be released in Colombia.
'Springsteen: Music from Nowhere' by Scott Cooper The eagerly awaited musical biopic explores the early days of Bruce Springsteen's career, specifically the pivotal moment of the recording of the album Nebraska in 1982, when Springsteen went from being a young, unknown artist from New Jersey to becoming a celebrated exponent of the life adventures and misfortunes of the American working class.
Directed by Scott Cooper (who gave Jeff Bridges an Oscar for his role in Crazy Heart ), the film is the first major film challenge for Jeremy Allen White, the award-winning star of the series The Bear . Jeremy Strong plays Springsteen's manager. The film is expected to hit Colombian theaters in October.
'Jay Kelly' by Noah Baumbach Playing with the boundaries between fiction and reality, the acclaimed director of Marriage Story tells the misadventures of a fictional movie star played by George Clooney.
The first images tease an Oscar-winning appearance by Adam Sandler as her manager, along with a star-studded cast including Laura Dern, Eve Hewson (the daughter of singer Bono), Greta Gerwig (the director of Barbie and wife of Baumbach), and Italian actress Alba Rohrwacher. Inspired by the true story of American Mark Kerr, a star of wrestling and mixed martial arts tournaments in the United States, the film appears at first glance to be Dwayne Johnson's most demanding, ambitious, and closest to his past as a professional wrestler.
“I found a terrifying character, but also very liberating. I'd never explored my own story,” Johnson recently told Vanity Fair about a role that could put him in the Oscar race. The female lead in the story is Emily Blunt. The film is expected to hit theaters on October 16.
'Hamnet' by Chloé Zhao The Oscar winner for Nomadland embarks on the adaptation of the novel by Irish author Maggie O'Farrell about the love story between William Shakespeare (Paul Mescal) and his wife Agnes (Jessie Buckley) from the moment they meet until they face the death of their 11-year-old son together.
The story was adapted for film by the novelist herself and Zhao, and both actors (especially Buckley) are expected to be prominent in the upcoming awards season. The film is scheduled for release in January 2026.
'Damn Luck' by Edward Bergen The name of the German director ( All Quiet on the Western Front and Conclave ) appears in the perspective of the high season of film festivals and awards thanks to the story of an English gambler (Colin Farrell) who pretends to be a distinguished gentleman of the British Empire while, following his addiction, he travels the casino route of Macau, the Asian equivalent of Las Vegas.
Based on Lawrence Osborne's novel, the film offers a colorful, playful, and energetic journey that also features Tilda Swinton. The film will be released on Netflix on October 29.

After the stop-motion animated version of Pinocchio he directed for Netflix, the Mexican filmmaker returns to work for the platform on a new version of the horror classic that has been on screen for over a century and first reached its peak in the 1931 feature film directed by James Whale and starring Boris Karloff.
In this new adaptation of Mary Shelley's novel, which promises a grand visual spectacle tied more to pure action than to explorations of the transformative impact of the Industrial Revolution on certain restless minds, Oscar Isaac embodies Dr. Frankenstein, and his creation bears the youthful face of Jacob Elordi, accompanied by Christoph Waltz and Mia Goth. The Colombian theatrical release will be on October 23, and Netflix will arrive on November 7.

This is the third venture, in less than three years, between the Greek director and his two favorite actors, Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons. A cross between comedy, science fiction, and thriller, Lanthimos offers a surreal and playful retelling of the 2003 South Korean film, Save the Green Planet!, directed by Jang Joon-Hwan.
Stone plays the CEO of a powerful company who is kidnapped by two young men (Plemons and Aidan Delbis) convinced that the woman is actually a disguised alien bent on destroying the planet. Early reviews from Venice praise Plemons' performance as a conspiracy-mad beekeeper. The film is expected to be released in Colombia on November 13.
