Colombian agreed to self-deport from the United States for four million pesos: 'Life is too hard here.'

The United States government recently offered nearly four million pesos and airfare to undocumented migrants who decided to request voluntary deportation through the CBP Home mobile app.

Furthermore, this measure responds to the executive order signed by President Donald Trump, which mandated an increase in the number of agents in charge of prosecutions in the United States.

In that sense, a Colombian citizen, identified as Yerman, decided to return to his country, motivated by the economic difficulties he was experiencing and the conditions many Latinos find themselves in with the new mandate.

The man's story was reported by Noticias Caracol, where he said he crossed the border in 2022 during Joe Biden's administration , thinking he would spend the rest of his life in the United States.

However, over time, the citizen realized that working conditions in the United States were not what many thought and revealed that he had to work several shifts at different jobs to survive.

Yerman worked as a barber, Uber driver, and construction worker , jobs that often took up 18 hours a day and with low incomes that were not enough to cover all his expenses.

According to the native of Colombia, the quality of life in the United States is too high and many people cannot afford the costs, so he felt the best decision was to accept the economic incentive granted by Donald Trump to return to Colombia and support himself for a few months while he settles in.

Accordingly, the president assured that undocumented migrants who apply for the voluntary deportation program will receive a flight back to their country of origin within a specific timeframe , so Yerman is currently in Miami preparing to board a plane.

While the $1,000 (more than four million pesos) is only given once, provided that people meet all the requirements established by the national government and leave the country, there is a possibility that they may later request entry into the country again if they meet certain criteria.

According to this, it is reported that after Trump's decision was formally announced, nearly 7,000 undocumented migrants have voluntarily applied to the program through the digital platform.
