Succession plan launched: Jose Antonio Fernández Garza-Lagüera will be the new CEO of FEMSA.

Mexican Economic Development announced that Jose Antonio Fernández Garza-Lagüera , one of the three children of José Antonio Fernández Carbajal and Eva María Garza Lagüera Gonda, will assume the position of CEO of the company starting November 1, 2025, as part of the leadership succession plan at the Monterrey-based company that owns the Oxxo brands .
Fernández Garza-Lagüera currently serves as CEO of FEMSA Proximidad & Salud , leading a team of more than 180,000 employees and an operation that includes more than 28,000 convenience stores, 4,300 pharmacies, and 550 fuel stations in the Americas and Europe.
FEMSA 's current Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors, José Antonio Fernández Carbajal , who has also served as interim CEO since July 2023, will continue in his role as Executive Chairman. The Board of Directors expressed its appreciation for his leadership during this transition period.
The succession process was designed by FEMSA's Corporate Practices and Nominations Committee (CPSN), which created a Special Committee to evaluate and recommend the new leader, FEMSA reported in a relevant event shared at the Mexican Stock Exchange .
"This process, which followed corporate best practices, included consulting from international firms specializing in leadership succession," the company said.
Fernández Garza-Lagüera, the new leader at FEMSAJose Antonio Fernández Garza-Lagüera began his career at FEMSA in 2011 as Sales and Operations Manager at Cervecería Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma Heineken . Since then, he has held various strategic roles, including Director of Strategic Planning at OXXO and FEMSA Comercio, General Manager of Coca-Cola FEMSA Central America, and General Manager of Spin. He holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
