Sports Route in Monterrey Suspended Due to Subway Works
The Monterrey government has indefinitely suspended the popular sports trail on the Par Vial due to metro construction, affecting thousands. No alternatives have been announced.

The Monterrey government announced the immediate and indefinite suspension of the Sports Path on the Par Vial (Par Vial) on Constitución Avenue, one of the city's most important recreational areas. The measure is due to construction work on Metro Lines 4 and 6, and no alternatives have been offered.

A hard blow for thousands of Monterrey residents. The Monterrey government has announced the complete and indefinite suspension of the "Vía Deportiva" (Sports Route), the popular Sunday program that closes the express lanes of the Par Vial (Par Vial) on Constitución Avenue for the exclusive use of pedestrians, cyclists, and skaters. The measure, effective this Sunday, July 13, leaves the city without one of its main spaces for family gatherings and recreation.

The decision, announced in a brief bulletin, has generated a wave of frustration and confusion among residents who flocked to this space every weekend to exercise and enjoy the city in a different way.

The official reason for the suspension is the construction work on Metro Lines 4 and 6, which is currently underway in the Constitución express lanes. According to municipal authorities, the presence of heavy machinery, excavations, and construction materials makes it "impossible and risky" to maintain safe passage for participants in the Sports Route.

Citizen safety is the main argument, but the lack of foresight and alternatives has been the main focus of criticism.

As soon as the news broke, social media was flooded with comments from disappointed citizens. The Vía Deportiva is not just a closed street; for many, it is the only safe and accessible space for outdoor sports, a community gathering place, and a weekend tradition. The frustration centers on the abrupt and indefinite nature of the suspension.

The official announcement has been brief and has left more questions than answers. The municipal statement simply states that "options are being analyzed to resume the circuit as soon as possible, provided safety conditions permit."

However, no estimated date for its resumption has been provided, nor have alternative routes or locations been announced so that residents can continue their recreational activities. This lack of a Plan B has been interpreted by many as a lack of planning and consideration for the community's needs. In the past, the Sports Route has been extended to the municipality of San Pedro, but this weekend it has been completely suspended.

The incident highlights a classic conflict in urban development: the clash between long-term progress, represented by a much-needed infrastructure project like the Metro, and the immediate quality of life of citizens, who see their leisure and community spaces sacrificed without a clear mitigation plan.
