Colombian police arrest 'El Costeño,' the fifth suspect in the attack on Miguel Uribe Turbay.

Colombian authorities arrested Elder José Arteaga Hernández, alias "El Costeño," on Saturday after an Interpol red notice was issued on Friday identifying him as one of the alleged perpetrators of the attack against Senator and presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay. Arteaga Hernández was captured in a joint operation by the police and the Attorney General's Office in the Bogotá town of Engativá, which includes the Modelia neighborhood where Uribe Turbay was seriously wounded on June 7 .
“Alias The Coastal "He would have been the one in charge of inducing and using the minor to attempt on the life of the presidential candidate," said Police General Carlos Fernando Triana yesterday on his social media. Today, in a press conference, he stated that the capture of alias "El Costeño" constitutes "a supremely important and valuable result for the country," and promised that the priority now will be to identify and bring to justice those who planned the attack. "We are going after the masterminds of this act that was presented against the integrity of Senator Miguel Uribe," he declared.
Arteaga's image first circulated on national television after Noticias Caracol revealed security camera footage from the area in which he is seen dressed in white, getting out of a vehicle in which the 14-year-old hitman who attacked the right-wing politician was also traveling.
Prosecutor Deicy Jaramillo Rivera explained that Elder José Arteaga will be brought before a judge for "the crimes of attempted aggravated homicide; aggravated weapons manufacturing, trafficking, and possession; aggravated conspiracy to commit a crime; and use of minors" to commit a crime. The Ministry of Defense says Arteaga already had "previous convictions for homicide, theft, arms and drug trafficking" and that he received approximately one billion pesos for the attack on Miguel Uribe Turbay.
The minor who fired the shot, and three other adults who were part of the operation, are also in custody. "Evidentiary material was also found early this morning, allowing us to continue the investigation into the involvement of other individuals," the prosecutor added. There was a reward of 300 million pesos, approximately $75,000, for Arteaga.
Senator and presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay, 39, has been in serious condition for a month at the Santa Fe Foundation in Bogotá, where he has undergone several surgeries.
