A tax advisor explains why some people still haven't received their tax refund.

The income tax return campaign began on April 2nd. Since then, millions of taxpayers in our country have prepared and confirmed their drafts, either online, by phone, or in person.
At the beginning of May, the Tax Agency reported that more than 4,340,000 taxpayers had already received a refund totaling €3.04 billion.
But what about those who, despite having fulfilled their obligations, still haven't received the money ? Tax advisor José Ramón López , known on social media as "Tu blog fiscal," has explained the reasons behind this .
"Just so you know, if they haven't refunded you, it's normal," this advisor reassures. The expert points out that the reason is "very simple." "The Tax Agency has until December 31, 2025, to refund the result you got on your income tax return," he explains.
This advisor acknowledges that, although it's quite common for the refund to arrive quickly, he encourages peace of mind if this hasn't happened yet, since "it's within the deadlines." He also reminds us that sooner or later the Treasury will return the established amount, since there are penalties if they don't comply: "If they pay you in March of next year, they will pay you late interest on the amount they should have paid you by December 31st, but didn't."
"Don't worry, you won't become a millionaire if you get paid this late payment interest , because it's 4.06% per year, and if they did pay it, you'd have to pay tax on it," he assures.
He also mentions that there may be other reasons, such as that it is being reviewed or analyzed. TaxDown suggests the same thing.
According to the firm specializing in income tax returns and taxation, there are still 2,869,747 taxpayers who have not yet received their income tax , representing 26.5% of those who have filed their income tax and received a refund.
"As the Tax Agency itself points out, deadlines and times vary depending on the taxpayer, as they are influenced by various variables such as the complexity of the return, the workload of the tax administration, and any additional audits that may need to be carried out," TaxDown emphasizes.
