DFB Cup: Leipzig fan dies during match in Cottbus

Cottbus. A Leipzig supporter died on the sidelines of the Saxon team's 4-1 cup match against third-division leaders Energie Cottbus. The Bundesliga club announced this. "Tragically, a medical emergency occurred upon entry to the stadium without any external intervention. We have just received the sad news that the RB Leipzig fan in question has passed away in the hospital," the two-time DFB Cup winner said in a statement.
The stadium announcer also announced this before kickoff of the second half, with the score at 3-0 for RB. Both fan groups then stopped supporting. RB also announced that "out of respect for the relatives, live coverage from Cottbus will be reduced to a minimum. At this moment, football takes a back seat."
Leipzig international David Raum praised the Energie Cottbus fans for their behavior. "Our thoughts and condolences are certainly with the family of the deceased. It's not nice. Respect also goes to the Cottbus fans for briefly stopping their support after halftime. Our fans did the same. Sport takes a backseat, which is very sad news," said RB Leipzig captain Raum.
