|To keep the major emerging economies on board, Europe must take the lead in climate protection, says the Federal Environment Minister. He also blames the Bavarian state government for the high electricity prices in this country.
Federal Environment Minister Carsten Schneider has called on the European Union to stick to its planned climate target for 2040 despite opposition. According to this target, the union is to emit 90 percent fewer greenhouse gases by then than in 1990. Based on this, the EU's 2035 reduction target, due by the 30th UN Climate Change Conference in November, is to be submitted to the United Nations, as required by the Paris Agreement. The EU must not be dissuaded from this, said the SPD politician. Because if Germany and Europe don't take the lead on climate protection, "there will be no one."
