Since summer 2022, the K-pop band has been forced to take an extended break because its members had to complete their military service. In South Korea, all able-bodied men must complete a mandatory 18 to 21-month military service.
The background to this is the tense security situation in the immediate vicinity of nuclear-armed North Korea. In June, the last BTS members were finally discharged from the army.
BTS is one of the most successful groups in South Korean pop music, also collectively known as K-pop. The boy band stormed the charts with hits like "Dynamite" and "Permission to Dance." BTS released their debut single, "No More Dream," in June 2013. The group's most recent album, "Proof," was released in 2022.
