Michael Sommer: Long-time DGB boss is dead

In 2013, it was revealed that Sommer had donated a kidney to his wife. In a joint SPIEGEL interview with her in 2019, he said: "I have a very serene relationship to dying and death. If I drop dead tomorrow, it's over. I've had a beautiful life. Death is part of it, it's part of this life. My wife and daughter are taken care of, and I did my job as best I could."
